Utah Valley University Baseball Drops Weekend Series at Nevada, Iverson Shines

RENO, Nev. – Utah Valley University’s baseball team concluded a three-game weekend series at Nevada with a 5-3 loss in 10 innings on Sunday, February 23, 2026, at Don Weir Field at Peccole Park. The Wolverines now hold a season record of 2-5.

Iverson’s Performance Highlights UVU’s Effort

Despite the defeat, junior Luke Iverson delivered a strong performance, going 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs. This home run marked the 24th of his career, tying him with Cole Jordan for seventh place on UVU’s all-time home run list .

Game Recap: Wolverines Fall in Extra Innings

Nevada secured the win with a walk-off home run by Sean Yamaguchi in the bottom of the 10th inning. Chipper Beck also contributed to UVU’s offense with two doubles.

Utah Valley took an early lead in the third inning when Iverson hit a two-run home run, giving the Wolverines a 2-0 advantage. UVU loaded the bases in the same inning but was unable to extend their lead.

Nevada tied the game in the fifth inning, scoring on a walk and a wild pitch. Landon Zaborowski, UVU’s starting pitcher, held Nevada scoreless through four innings, allowing only one hit before the Wolf Pack rallied. He finished with 4 2/3 innings pitched, four strikeouts, and allowed three hits.

The Wolverines regained the lead in the ninth inning with an RBI single by Iverson, scoring Brody Block. But, Nevada responded in the bottom of the ninth, tying the game on a slow roller.

Strong Relief Pitching and Defensive Plays

Garrett Miller pitched 3 1/3 innings in relief, setting a new career high. Utah Valley’s defense also made key plays, including a diving stop by Mason Hamlin and a full-extension catch by Kaden Carpenter.

Looking Ahead

Utah Valley will return home to host UC Riverside in a four-game series starting Friday, February 27th, beginning a 12-game homestand.
