Spanish Transport Minister Óscar Puente Reveals Past Careers and Future Aspirations
Óscar Puente, Spain’s current Minister of Transport, has shared details about his diverse professional background and future ambitions, revealing a past life in both theater and law alongside his political career. The revelations came during a conversation with reporter Thais Villas for the La Sexta program, El Intermedio.
From Stage to Courtroom to Congress
Puente disclosed that he has 11 years of contributions to Social Security as a theater actor and 20 years as a lawyer, often working simultaneously in both roles. He has now added 10 years of contributions as a politician, including 8 years as the mayor of Valladolid.
A Desire to Maintain Working
Despite his varied career, Puente expressed a strong desire to continue working. “I want to work until my last breath,” he stated, indicating he has no plans for immediate retirement.
Future Aspirations: Writing and Reality TV
If he were to transition away from politics, Puente expressed a keen interest in writing, stating he has “a lot to tell” in a more expansive format than social media allows. He as well surprisingly revealed a willingness to participate in the reality TV show Supervivientes (Survivor), expressing enthusiasm for the challenge and potential interactions with the show’s host, Jordi González.
Colleagues’ Assessments
Puente’s capabilities were also assessed by fellow politician Gabriel Rufián, a deputy for Esquerra Republicana. Rufián jokingly suggested Puente could “strangle a bear,” highlighting his perceived strength and resourcefulness, and nominated him as an ideal companion for a hypothetical apocalyptic scenario.
Current Political Context
Óscar Puente currently serves in the 15th Congress of Deputies, which convened following the general election held on July 23, 2023.
