Apple Launches iPhone 17e: A More Affordable Entry into the Ecosystem

Apple expanded its iPhone lineup on Monday with the release of the iPhone 17e, a more budget-friendly option aimed at attracting new users and offering a lower-cost alternative to its flagship models. The iPhone 17e, priced at $599, is $200 less expensive than the standard iPhone 17.

Key Features and Specifications

The iPhone 17e shares the same A19 processor as the iPhone 17, ensuring comparable performance. However, it features a slightly smaller screen and a single-camera system instead of the dual-camera setup found in the higher-end model. It also lacks the Dynamic Island, a feature that displays alerts and live activities.

  • Processor: A19 Chip
  • Display: 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display with Ceramic Shield 2
  • Camera: 48MP “fusion” camera system (wide-angle and telephoto)
  • 5G Modem: C1X – twice as fast as the C1 in the iPhone 16e
  • Storage: 256GB (base model)
  • Charging: MagSafe compatibility with Qi2 support
  • Colors: White, Black and Pink

Availability and Pre-Order Details

Pre-orders for the iPhone 17e begin on Wednesday, March 4, following Apple’s product announcement event. The device will officially launch on Wednesday, March 11.

A Shift in Apple’s Strategy

The release of the iPhone 17e marks a continuation of Apple’s strategy to offer more accessible iPhone options. This follows the introduction of the iPhone 16e last year, a departure from the sporadic releases of the previous budget smartphone, the SE line. This suggests a growing demand for more affordable iPhones, particularly after a muted reception of the iPhone Air.

Impact on Sales and AI Adoption

Apple CEO Tim Cook highlighted the strong demand for iPhones, which contributed to the company exceeding revenue expectations in the fourth quarter of 2025. The iPhone 17e is expected to further boost sales and potentially increase adoption of Apple Intelligence by appealing to users with older devices that do not support the AI features. Apple saw record iPhone upgrades last year and double-digit growth in users switching from Android.

MagSafe Integration

For the first time in Apple’s budget smartphone line, the iPhone 17e includes MagSafe technology, enabling compatibility with Apple’s MagSafe accessories and wireless charging.
