The groundwork for the finale was subtly laid in Season 4, with Carmy Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White) informing Sydney Adamu (Ayo Edebiri) and Richard “Richie” Jerimovich (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) of his intention to abandon the restaurant and transfer his ownership stake.

The news was seemingly foreshadowed by Jamie Lee Curtis, who plays Carmy’s mother Donna Berzatto, posting a photo from the set with co-star Abby Elliott (Natalie ‘Sugar’ Berzatto) on Instagram. Her caption, “FINISHED STRONG!” alluded to the completion of the series’ narrative.

Jeremy Allen White previously discussed the potential for a fifth season during an appearance on The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast in December 2025. He revealed that Storer had initially planned for four seasons but offered a continuation, stating, “Chris [Storer] called me on Christmas Eve last year and was like, ‘We’re gonna do some more.’”
