Police Scotland has confirmed that arrests have been made, and both officers and fans sustained injuries during the clashes.
Chief Superintendent Kate Stephen stated that a robust investigation will be conducted in collaboration with both Rangers and Celtic, as well as the Scottish Football Association (SFA). The Guardian reported that officers faced “extreme hostility and violence” and that individuals were armed with items “clearly intended to cause harm.”
Increased Celtic Allocation
This match marked the first time since 2018 that Celtic supporters were granted the full allocation of 7,500 tickets for the Broomloan Road Stand at Ibrox. BBC News noted that traditionally, this stand held around 7,500 Celtic fans for Old Firm derbies.
Investigation Launched
The SFA has launched an immediate investigation into the events that unfolded at Ibrox. Sky Sports reports that the investigation will also examine reports of supporters entering the Broomloan Road stand without valid tickets prior to kickoff.
Rangers Manager Condemns Behavior
Rangers manager Danny Röhl condemned the pitch invasion, expressing his disappointment with the fan behavior following the defeat. Sky Sports also reported that Celtic manager Martin O’Neill expressed concern that the fan behavior could overshadow his team’s victory.
