Jeremy Fears Jr. Faces Scrutiny After Apparent Kick in Michigan State-Michigan Game

Ann Arbor – Michigan State guard Jeremy Fears Jr. Is under scrutiny following an incident during Sunday’s game against the University of Michigan at Crisler Center. Fears was assessed a technical foul after appearing to kick Michigan point guard Elliot Cadeau in the groin area.

The incident occurred early in the first half, with 5:16 elapsed on the game clock. The play drew immediate reaction from the crowd, who voiced their displeasure with chants directed at Fears. The technical foul was called after a review of the play.

Izzo Defends Player, Cites Previous Incidents

Michigan State coach Tom Izzo addressed the incident during a timeout, acknowledging the heightened attention on Fears due to a prior similar occurrence. “You know what? It’s all cause of what happened earlier and now every microscope is on him and I don’t like that, OK?” Izzo stated. He also emphasized the team’s struggles with fouls.

Following the game, Izzo reiterated his belief that the kick was unintentional, describing it as a “reaction.” He further stated, “I don’t suppose he did anything on purpose… I thought Jeremy Fears played his ass off 99 percent of that game.” Izzo also noted that film review revealed Cadeau had been pushing Fears prior to the kick, contributing to the sequence of events.

Fears Acknowledges Unfortunate Situation

Fears himself acknowledged the play as “an unfortunate situation,” expressing concern about its impact on the team. “I got fouled. I should have probably just fell, you know,” Fears said. “It’s hurting the team. Just can’t have it.”

Michigan defeated Michigan State in the game.
