Moscow’s “Near Stanislavsky’s House” Theater Tours Pskov with ‘The Inspector General’ and ‘Magadan’

The Moscow theater “Near Stanislavsky’s House” is currently on a two-day tour at the Pskov Drama Theater, showcasing two distinct productions: Nikolai Gogol’s satirical play The Inspector General and the cabaret-style performance Magadan.

“The Inspector General” Reimagined

The tour commenced with a performance of The Inspector General. Director Anton Fedorov maintained the original plot of Gogol’s classic perform but introduced a new artistic vision, aiming for a psychological impact on the audience through unique physicality and evocative language.

Actress Olga Beshulya, who plays Marya Antonovna, commented on the production’s themes, stating, “We all play characters, in my feeling that we are all like animals. Given that there is a lot of animal in a person. And Gogol wrote about this and the director himself revealed it.”

“Magadan/Cabaret” – A National Award-Winning Production

The second performance on the tour is Magadan, a cabaret production that received the National Theater Award “Golden Mask” in 2017 for “Best Small Form Performance.” The production is authored by Yuri Pogrebnichko, People’s Artist of Russia and laureate of the State Prize, Stanislavsky Prize, and National Theater Award “Golden Mask.”
