Wilson Sweeps Millikan in Beach Volleyball Rematch, Sponsored by Local Law Firm
Long Beach Wilson High School’s beach volleyball team defeated Millikan High School 5-0 on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at Long Beach City College (LBCC). The match was a rematch of last year’s CIF-SS Division 2 championship, which Wilson also won. Match Highlights
Despite the 90-degree weather, Wilson demonstrated strong performance across all courts. Wilson coach Jeremy Cook praised his team’s resilience, stating, “There were a few girls that were really feeling the heat today but they just dug deep and I’m proud of them for overcoming that.”
The decisive match took place on Court 2, where Wilson’s Ilya Alvarado and Jane Morrison secured the final point after a hard-fought battle against Millikan’s Johanna Swerdloff and Bella Bonales. Alvarado and Morrison won the first set 21-19, lost the second 21-23, and ultimately prevailed in the third set 15-11.
Court 1 featured a rematch from the previous year’s championship, with Wilson’s Simrin Adams and Sadie Calderone defeating Millikan’s Sarah Thaut and Bethany Arnold 21-15, 21-19. Adams is committed to Stanford, and Calderone will play at San Francisco.2 Cook noted the advantage of having such a strong pair, stating, “It’s a luxury that almost no other coach has when you have that pair on Court 1.”
Millikan Faces Challenges
Millikan faced challenges due to several players being unavailable, forcing the team to adjust its pairings. Coach Antoinette de la Espriella emphasized a long-term perspective, stating, “I’m playing the long game with this team because I know we’re going to get enough wins to get into CIF, so whereas the little losses like this suck, it’s a moment for me to teach these girls to be mentally resilient.”
