Marian Eisden, Gouda Volunteer and Advocate, Dies Before Election
Marian Eisden, a well-known volunteer in Gouda and candidate for the GroenLinks-PvdA party, passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at the age of 59. Known affectionately as “Dushi” by many in the city, Eisden was deeply involved in community work, particularly supporting youth and those in demand.
A Life Dedicated to Service
Eisden was a familiar face at the De Walvis community center, where she volunteered extensively, regularly cooked for visitors, and organized activities. She likewise founded a “huiskamercafé” (living room café) at De Walvis, providing a space for community members to connect and find support. Zogouds.nl reports that Eisden was a warm and involved person who dedicated years to helping people in the Korte Akkeren neighborhood.
Loss of Jerryson and Call for Reconciliation
Eisden’s life was marked by tragedy with the death of her foster son, Jerryson, in September 2025. Jerryson, 15, died following a shooting incident with police in Capelle aan den IJssel during an encounter involving a stolen fatbike and a displayed weapon. The Gouda Post detailed that Eisden had taken Jerryson in as a baby and considered him a cherished “gift from God.”
Following Jerryson’s death, Eisden publicly called for calm and reconciliation, emphasizing the need for greater support for young people. AD.nl noted her appeal for peace and her belief that anger would not be productive.
Political Aspirations Cut Short
Despite her grief, Eisden became politically active, running as an 18th candidate on the GroenLinks-PvdA list for the upcoming Gouda municipal elections. Reformatorisch Dagblad reported that her campaign has been paused for three days in mourning. Votes cast for Eisden will still count towards the GroenLinks-PvdA party.
Recent Hospitalization
Eisden was admitted to the hospital urgently just days before her death and passed away on March 12, 2026, surrounded by her family. The Gouda Post reported on her passing.
Marian Eisden’s dedication to the Gouda community will be deeply missed. Her legacy of service and her call for reconciliation will continue to inspire those who knew her.
