Synagogue Ramming in Michigan Investigated as Targeted Attack

A shooting and vehicle-ramming attack at Temple Israel synagogue in West Bloomfield, Michigan, on March 12, 2026, is being investigated by the FBI as a targeted act of violence against the Jewish community. The suspect, identified as 41-year-classic Ayman Mohamad Ghazali, a naturalized U.S. Citizen from Lebanon, died after a shootout with security personnel.

Details of the Attack

According to law enforcement officials, Ghazali drove a vehicle into the synagogue, then engaged in a shootout with security. He was armed with a rifle . Nobody inside the synagogue was injured. One security guard was hit by the suspect’s truck and briefly knocked unconscious but is expected to recover .

The vehicle caught fire after crashing into the building, and the cause of the ignition is still under investigation . Thirty law enforcement officers were treated for smoke inhalation .
