SXSW 2026: Your Guide to Free and Community Events in Austin

South by Southwest (SXSW) 2026 returns to Austin from March 12-18, transforming the city into a hub for music, tech, film, and culture. While many SXSW events require a badge, numerous free and open-to-the-public opportunities allow everyone to experience the festival’s vibrant energy. Here’s a guide to some of the free community events happening during SXSW 2026.

Congress Avenue Block Party

New for 2026, the Congress Avenue Block Party offers a free space for festival attendees and Austin residents to connect. The event, held daily from 11 a.m. To 7 p.m. Along Congress Avenue (900 Congress Ave), features free food, drinks, and swag.

Art & Culture

Flatstock

Flatstock showcases fine poster art from artists worldwide, offering attendees the chance to view artwork and meet the creators. The event takes place from March 13-15, from 10 a.m. To 5 p.m. At the Austin Marriott Downtown (304 E. Cesar Chavez St).

Black Makers Market

The Black Makers Market will spotlight over 40 Black-owned businesses offering art, fashion, beauty, wellness, and other products, celebrating Black creativity and culture. It will be held on March 14 from 12-4 p.m. At the Carver Museum (1165 Angelina St).

Music & Entertainment

KUTX Live at Scholz Garten

KUTX Live at Scholz Garten offers live music and coffee for a $10 entry fee, benefiting the Central Texas Food Bank. The event runs from March 12-14, 8 a.m. To 12 p.m. At Scholz Garten (1607 San Jacinto Blvd). FOX 7 Austin provides more details.

Tune-Yards at Auditorium Shores

Enjoy a free concert with Tune-Yards at Auditorium Shores on Sunday, March 15, starting at 5:30 p.m. This community concert is open to the public. FOX 7 Austin reports on this event.

The Lumineers at Moody Amphitheater

The Lumineers will perform a free concert on Monday, March 16, at Moody Amphitheater at Waterloo Park, presented by Rivian. An RSVP is required for entry. FOX 7 Austin has more information.

Marshall: Live From Mohawk

Marshall: Live From Mohawk features live music, a pop-up from Waterloo Records, interactive activities, and popsicles. The event likewise includes a vinyl shop and live screen-printing demonstrations on March 16 from 12-6 p.m. At The Mohawk (912 Red River St).

SXSW Pickle Party

Grillo’s Pickles hosts its fourth annual St. Pickles Day, co-sponsored by Pabst Blue Ribbon and Camp Snap Camera, on March 15 from 1 p.m. To midnight at 1502 E. Sixth St. Attendees can enjoy free pickles and hot dogs, live screen-printing workshops, and flash tattooing.

Hair of the Three-Legged Dog Day Party

The Hair of the Three-Legged Dog party, held at Hotel Vegas (1502 E. Sixth St.) on March 13 from 12-4 p.m., honors Hank, the Austin Chronicle’s beloved three-legged pooch. The event features tacos, drinks, and supports Austin Pets Alive.

Just Southwest of Official

Just Southwest of Official, hosted by The Good for Nothings Club, offers live music, a vendor market, a free photo booth, and flash tattoos on March 15 from 1-5 p.m. At Better Half Coffee & Cocktails + Hold Out Brewing (406 Walsh St).

Wear Happy, Meet Cute — SXSW Single’s Mixer

The SXSW Single’s Mixer provides a casual environment for networking and connecting with other attendees on March 13 from 4-8 p.m. At 3000 E. Cesar Chavez St. Unit 100.

RYZE Coffee Popup

RYZE Coffee’s pop-up, from March 12-14 (8 a.m.-5 p.m.) at 147 E. Fourth St., offers free lattes, branded merchandise, art experiences, morning yoga classes, and entertainment.
