Eileen Flanagan, Longtime Clonberne Resident, Dies at 96
Eileen Flanagan, a cherished member of the Clonberne community in County Galway, Ireland, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at the age of 96. She died surrounded by family and although receiving care at Central Park Nursing Home.
A Life Well-Lived
Born and raised in Clonberne, Flanagan was known for her kindness and gentle spirit, leaving a lasting impact on those who knew her. She was predeceased by her husband, Mark, and her sisters, Mary Glynn of Cong and Bridie O’Brien of Northampton, as well as her daughter-in-law, Bernie of Lanesborough.
Family and Legacy
Flanagan is survived by her children, Jimmy, Mary, Michael, Luke, and Mark. She is also remembered by her siblings, Nora and Louis; her son-in-law, Seamus Heaney; daughters-in-law Caroline, Shirley, and Aileen; and a large family including grandchildren Shane, Alan, Aisling, Roisin, Aine, Dara, Sean, Conor, Maeve, Evelyn, Aoife, Laoise, Shauna, and Mark, as well as great-grandchildren Rian, Isla-Rose, Leah, Sean, and Sadhbh, along with numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Funeral Arrangements
Reposing will take place at Clonberne Community Centre (H53 W3W2) on Saturday, March 14, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A removal service will be held from the family home on Sunday, March 15, 2026, followed by a Funeral Mass at 2:30 PM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Clonberne (H53 XC89). Burial will then take place in Clonberne Cemetery. The Funeral Mass will be live streamed.
Donations and Remembrance
Family flowers only are requested. The family has requested that the house remain private. Those wishing to honor Eileen’s memory are encouraged to remember her kindness and gentle soul.
