Cheyenne Wind Cleanup: Trash & Recycling Info for Residents (March 2026)

Cheyenne Sanitation Services Update Following High Winds, March 2026

Following a significant high wind event on March 12, 2026, the Cheyenne Sanitation Division is providing additional services to residents, particularly those affected by disruptions to Thursday trash and recycling collection. Here’s a comprehensive overview of the available options and important information for Cheyenne residents.

Service Adjustments for Thursday Collections

Residents who regularly receive trash and recycling collection on Thursdays will receive extra assistance due to the service suspension during the wind event. The Sanitation Division will collect extra bags of trash placed outside of containers during the rescheduled collection on Thursday, March 19, 2026. All trash must be bagged. Yard waste, including limbs and branches, will not be accepted with regular trash pickup.

Drop-Off Locations for Trash and Recycling

Residents with Thursday pickups have the following options for disposing of excess trash and recycling:

  • Transfer Station: Residents can bring their city trash container or up to five 35-gallon bags of trash to the Transfer Station located at 220 N College Dr.
  • Happy Jack Landfill: The Landfill at 1461 Happy Jack Road will also accept up to five 35-gallon bags of trash.

Residents utilizing the Transfer Station or Landfill must provide proof of address to verify Thursday pickup eligibility. Recycling will be accepted at the Transfer Station for residents whose recycling day was March 12, 2026 (Thursday Pickups/Yellow Week).

Additional Pickup Options

Residents who prefer not to utilize the drop-off locations can schedule an extra trash pickup for an additional fee.

Container Assistance

The Sanitation Division is available to assist residents who are missing trash or recycling containers, or who have found a stray container. Contact the Sanitation Division at 307-637-6440, option 0, to report missing or found containers, obtain container numbers, or schedule a container location visit.

Compost Facility Information

The City Compost Facility on Windmill Road will be open on Sunday, March 15, 2026, from 10 a.m. To 2 p.m. For drop-off only. Normal operating hours are Tuesday through Saturday, from 9 a.m. To 5 p.m. Accepted materials include branches, limbs, brush, grass, and leaves. Tree trunks less than 6 feet in length and 10 inches in diameter are also accepted. Larger tree trunks and other non-accepted items must be taken to the Happy Jack Landfill. Residents should call 307-632-8315 to verify the Landfill is open, as it may close due to wind conditions in accordance with DEQ guidelines.

Recycling Container Latches

Latches for recycling containers are available for purchase from the Sanitation Division by calling 307-637-6440.
