Neo-Nazi Demonstrations in Berlin Met with Mass Counter-Protests
Berlin – Right-wing extremist demonstrations in Berlin on Saturday drew significant counter-protests and a large police presence. Approximately 1,800 officers were deployed across the city to manage the demonstrations and a concurrent football match, aiming to maintain order and prevent the dissemination of extremist ideologies.
Right-Wing Demonstrations and Counter-Protests
A gathering of 160 supporters of the right-wing extremist party “The Third Way” took place at a shopping center in Marzahn. Around 100 counter-protesters were also present, and police maintained a visible presence to prevent clashes. No immediate incidents were reported.
Clashes at Potsdamer Platz
At Potsdamer Platz, approximately 80 demonstrators associated with the neo-Nazi scene gathered. Participants included individuals linked to the former NPD and the current party “Die Heimat,” including known speakers with a history in the neo-Nazi movement. Police confiscated stickers bearing banned slogans. One man was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a journalist.
More than 150 counter-demonstrators assembled at Potsdamer Platz, and police erected barriers to separate the opposing groups. Officers also enforced a ban on uniforms and masks among the right-wing extremist demonstrators.
Conspiracy Theory Demonstration and Controversy
Near the Victory Column in Tiergarten, a demonstration organized by conspiracy theorists, including singer Xavier Naidoo, commenced. Police removed a truck intended to serve as a stage due to registration issues.
The demonstration, titled “Transparency, the rule of law and protection of minors – clarification in the context of possible German connections in the international Epstein complex,” featured rhetoric that experts have identified as anti-Semitic. Naidoo previously referenced “man-eaters” in connection with the Epstein files, invoking an anti-Semitic conspiracy narrative alleging Jews kill children for ritual purposes. Naidoo’s management declined to comment on the matter.
Further Demonstrations Planned
Additional demonstrations focused on Palestine and the war against Iran were scheduled to take place later in the afternoon.
