Police Disperse Frankfurt Demonstration Following Anti-Semitic Chants

Frankfurt police broke up a demonstration on Saturday after participants shouted anti-Semitic slogans, including “Death to Israel,” amidst protests related to ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. The demonstration was one of several registered in Frankfurt concerning events in Palestine and Iran.

Demonstration Disrupted Over Anti-Semitic Remarks

According to a statement from the Frankfurt police, the demonstration was halted when anti-Semitic chants were heard. Two individuals are under investigation for making these statements. Police warned the demonstration’s leader before dispersing the approximately 500 protesters. Following dispersal, participants ignited pyrotechnics, but no injuries were reported. Combat Antisemitism reported a similar incident in Frankfurt in August 2025, where Jews were attacked with red paint during a vigil for Israeli hostages.

Multiple Protests Held in Frankfurt

Around 3,000 people participated in several demonstrations in Frankfurt on Saturday, addressing “contradictory views” related to current events in Palestine and Iran. Police were deployed in large numbers to prevent confrontations between different groups. Middle East Eye reported on previous instances of German police repressing pro-Palestinian protests, including a demonstration in Frankfurt in October 2023 where hundreds were detained.

Context of Regional Conflicts and Al-Quds Day

The demonstrations occurred against a backdrop of escalating tensions in the Middle East, including the war between Iran and the USA and Israel, as well as renewed conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon. Saturday likewise marked Al-Quds Day, an annual pro-Palestinian and anti-Israel day of protest proclaimed by the late Iranian supreme leader Ruhollah Khomeini.
