Pond Announces Latest Single ‘Terrestrials’ and US Tour Supporting Djo
Australian psychedelic rock band Pond has released a new single, “Terrestrials,” and announced a summer US tour supporting Djo, the musical project of Stranger Things actor Joe Keery. Pond’s latest offering marks their first new material since the release of their tenth studio album, “Stung!” in summer 2024.
Exploring Humanity’s Contradictions
“Terrestrials” delves into the complex nature of humanity, exploring the coexistence of love, and cruelty. Frontman Nicholas Allbrook and the band examine societal contradictions and mankind’s simultaneous appreciation for beauty and destruction. Lyrics include, “At the sight of the new moon/ The mongrels head berserk/ Baby wanna be weightless/ But it’s a contract signed at birth,” leading into a vibrant chorus with the lines, “It’s all good/ She’ll be alright/Pray in the morning.”
Behind the Music
According to Allbrook, Jay Watson (GUM) composed the music for “Terrestrials,” and the track was recorded in Mullumbimby with Julian Abbott at Nowave studio. Allbrook explained the song’s thematic core: “This song is about the weirdest of all the terrestrials, people. Hellbent on flying away from or killing our home soil, with a considerable appetite for destruction, guns, roses. We can love and connect and nurture and inflict unbearable cruelty.” He further added, “It’s almost more supernatural than extraterrestrials.” Allbrook also noted a collaborative songwriting effort with his cousin Iz.
US Tour Dates with Djo
Pond will join Djo on stage for five US shows this summer. The tour kicks off in Pittsburgh and includes stops in New York, Portland (Maine), Lewiston (New York), and Richmond (Virginia).

Collaborative Connections
The announcement follows reports of members of Pond, along with artists from Tame Impala, Geese, and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, collaborating in a Perth studio. A video posted on Instagram by Geese’s touring keyboardist Sam Revas showed Max Bassin and Emily Green jamming with Nick Allbrook, Jay Watson, James Ireland (of Pond), Kevin Parker, and Ambrose Kenny-Smith (of King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard). These collaborations highlight the interconnectedness of the Australian psychedelic music scene.
‘Stung!’ and Beyond
“Terrestrials” follows Pond’s 2024 album, “Stung!” Their previous record, “9,” released in 2021, received a four-star review from NME, with Rhys Buchanan praising the band’s willingness to experiment with diverse styles and declaring, “Having perhaps taken their psych-pop to the edges of what’s possible, Pond deserve this moment.”
