Rugby Canada Launches New PlayHQ-Powered App to Enhance Community Engagement

Langford, BC – March 17, 2026 – Rugby Canada has officially launched a new mobile app, powered by PlayHQ, designed to modernize the experience for players, parents, coaches, and volunteers across the country. The app, available now on both iOS and Android, aims to unify the Canadian rugby community within a single digital platform.

A Unified Digital Experience

The launch of the app follows a recently announced partnership between Rugby Canada and PlayHQ, a global leader in competition management platforms. PlayHQ already supports major sports organizations in Australia, New Zealand, and the UK, including Basketball England, Cricket Australia, and Netball Australia [1]. This collaboration marks PlayHQ’s first venture into rugby and its initial major partnership in the North American market.

The PlayHQ app provides users with instant access to key information, including registrations, schedules, live scores, results, and club communications, all accessible through their smartphones [1]. Players can track their progress and receive recognition for milestones, while parents can easily stay updated on schedules and game information. Coaches and team managers benefit from streamlined communication and simplified access to player data.

Collaboration with Provincial Unions

The rollout of PlayHQ has been developed in close collaboration with Rugby Canada’s ten Provincial Unions, which are central to the growth of the sport at the grassroots level. The platform allows each province to maintain independent control over local competitions, registrations, and club operations while contributing to a unified national overview [3].

“Rugby Canada’s growth starts at the grassroots level, and that means giving our Provincial Unions, clubs, and volunteers the tools they necessitate to thrive,” said Nathan Bombrys, Chief Executive Officer of Rugby Canada [1]. “This app is a direct investment in the experience of every player, parent, and coach who shows up week after week to grow this game. We’re proud to bring our community together in one modern platform, and we’re just getting started.”

Tim MacKinnon, Chief Executive Officer of PlayHQ, added, “Participation grows when the experience is seamless – from the very first registration through to celebrating the milestones that maintain people coming back. The PlayHQ app unites Rugby Canada’s community across every province in one place, giving every player, parent, and coach a connected experience in the palm of their hand. That’s what drives long-term participation and engagement.” [3]
