Richmond Spiders Defeat George Mason Patriots in Women’s Lacrosse Matchup

FAIRFAX, Va. — The University of Richmond women’s lacrosse team defeated George Mason University 18-8 on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at George Mason Stadium. Despite a competitive start, the Patriots were unable to overcome the Spiders’ strong offensive performance.

First Quarter

The University of Richmond initiated the scoring with a goal from Meghan Rode, securing the draw control and setting the pace for the Spiders. Alexis Morton extended Richmond’s lead, assisted by Rode. George Mason responded with a goal from Kate Anders while playing with a player advantage. Richmond concluded the first quarter with a goal by Juliana Stanley, assisted by Bridget Lonsinger, leading 3-1.

Second Quarter

George Mason began the second quarter with goals from Matye Riley, assisted by Anders, and Kaitlyn Bestick, leveling the score. Riley added another goal, briefly giving the Patriots the lead. However, Richmond countered with five goals, including two from Meghan Rode, to establish an 8-4 advantage by the end of the quarter.

Third Quarter

Kaitlyn Bestick scored early in the third quarter for George Mason, narrowing the gap. Richmond responded with a series of goals, including one by Emma Kroneberger, extending their lead. Despite another goal from Bestick, assisted by Riley Ellis, Richmond maintained control, finishing the quarter ahead 13-6.

Fourth Quarter

George Mason started the fourth quarter with a defensive play, leading to a goal from Kaitlyn Bestick. Riley added another goal for the Patriots, but Richmond responded with further goals, including a free-position goal by Alexis Morton, securing an 18-8 victory.
