AC/DC Guitarist Stevie Young Hospitalized in Buenos Aires

AC/DC guitarist Stevie Young was hospitalized in Buenos Aires, Argentina, just days before the band is scheduled to perform three sold-out concerts at the Monumental Stadium on March 23, 27, and 31 as part of their “Power Up” world tour, according to the Associated Press.

Condition and Expected Recovery

Young, 69, was admitted to a local hospital after feeling unwell. A spokesperson for the band stated that he is undergoing a “full series of tests” as a precaution. The Associated Press reports that Young “is doing well and in good spirits” and is “eagerly looking forward to getting on stage on Monday.” Ultimate Classic Rock also reported that Young is expected to rejoin the band for their performance.

Stevie Young’s Role in AC/DC

Stevie Young has been AC/DC’s guitarist since 2014, stepping in after his uncle, Malcolm Young, stepped down due to health issues. He initially filled in for Malcolm during a U.S. Tour in 1988 and played on the band’s 2014 album, Rock or Bust, before becoming an official member. Ultimate Classic Rock notes that Angus Young described Stevie as a “natural fit” due to their shared musical background and upbringing.

Recent Tour and Past Performances

The band arrived in Buenos Aires on Wednesday after performing in Santiago, Chile, and is scheduled to continue the “Power Up” tour with dates in Mexico City in early April. The Associated Press highlighted that this is AC/DC’s first performance in Argentina since 2009, when they played to nearly 200,000 fans. The band will also be heading to North America for a new leg of the Power Up Tour in July, with dates including Charlotte, North Carolina, Denver, Vancouver, Houston and Toronto. Malcolm Young’s Legacy

The “Power Up” tour is a tribute to Malcolm Young, who died in 2017 after suffering from dementia. Malcolm founded AC/DC in Sydney, Australia, in 1973 with his brother Angus. The Associated Press reported that Angus Young stated Stevie was the logical choice to fulfill Mal’s role on the project.
