Wedding Venue Floor Collapse Injures Dozens in Tamworth, New Hampshire
Six people were transported to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries after a floor collapsed at The Sap House at The Preserve at Chocorua in Tamworth, New Hampshire, on Saturday, March 21, 2026, around 4:33 p.m., according to officials. The collapse occurred while a wedding party of approximately 144 people were present .
What Happened?
According to a joint release from the Tamworth Fire/Rescue Department and the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office, the floor buckled, creating an approximately 20-foot by 20-foot opening and sending around 70 guests into the basement . Several people were trapped by fallen beams and farm equipment stored in the basement.
First responders reported that venue staff and wedding guests had already begun providing initial first aid and using ladders to aid those who had fallen before their arrival . Firefighters assisted with further evaluations and treatment.
Injuries and Response
Six adults were transported to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. As of Saturday evening, four of those hospitalized had been released . Multiple other guests were treated at the scene.
The New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office has assumed lead of the investigation, which is ongoing .
Preliminary Investigation
Investigators believe the building was over capacity prior to the floor collapse . The Sap House is described as a “quintessential New England Maple Sugar shack” used for ceremonies, lounges and indoor/outdoor cocktail hours .
