Initial Reports and Changing Numbers
Initial reports from General Carlos Fernando Silva Rueda, commander of the Colombian Air Force, indicated 77 injured individuals requiring medical attention but not in life-threatening condition, and 43 whose status was still being determined.
However, the number of injured and fatalities has been subject to change. President Gustavo Petro initially reported one death, 77 injured, and 43 individuals with an uncertain status. Later reports from the governor of the city indicated at least 34 fatalities, while authorities later confirmed eight deaths and at least 80 injuries. As of March 24, 2026, the official balance reported 48 injured.
Flight Details and Investigation
The Hercules aircraft was en route from Puerto Leguízamo to Puerto Asís, carrying soldiers beginning their career advancement route towards Bogotá. The crash occurred shortly after takeoff.
General Carlos Fernando Silva Rueda stated that all emergency protocols were activated, and an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the accident.
