Geese Honors Stone Roses with Cover, Reflects on Recent BRIT Award Win
At their show on Tuesday night (March 24) at Manchester’s O2 Victoria Warehouse, Geese paid tribute to the iconic Stone Roses with a cover of their 1989 track “Fools Gold.” The performance reportedly incorporated the song into “2122,” a track from their 2023 album, 3D Country, a practice the band often employs during live shows.1
This homage follows Geese’s recent win for International Group of the Year at the 2026 BRIT Awards, their first major award. During the acceptance speech, Max Bassin acknowledged the Stone Roses’ late frontman, Gary “Mani” Mounfield, stating, “Free Palestine, fuck ICE, RIP Mani, let’s go Geese.”3 The speech was reportedly censored on the live broadcast in the UK by ITV.3
BRIT Awards and Mani’s Legacy
The 2026 BRIT Awards were held at Manchester’s Co-op Live arena on February 28, marking the first time the event has been held outside of London in its 47-year history.3 A special dedication to Stone Roses and Primal Scream bassist Mani was led by The Charlatans’ Tim Burgess, following Mani’s passing in November due to respiratory issues at the age of 63.32
