A striking design concept for a high-performance hatchback, the Kia Picanto GT-R, has emerged as a potential rival to the Toyota GR Yaris. Created by Czech automotive designer Rostislav Prokop, this reimagined city car pushes the boundaries of what’s expected from the compact segment.
Radical Redesign and Aggressive Styling
The Picanto GT-R concept features a dramatically altered aesthetic. It boasts an aggressively styled front end, complete with LED headlights, a compact grille and a substantial front bumper incorporating LED lighting elements. Widened fenders contribute to a more assertive and agile appearance, complemented by a lowered suspension for enhanced handling. A shark-fin antenna and lightweight forged wheels with Michelin tires and large brake discs further emphasize the car’s performance intentions.
Sporty Details and Interior Enhancements
The design extends to the rear of the vehicle, featuring a roof extension and prominent sports exhaust tips. The rear design mirrors the widened aesthetic of the front, creating a cohesive and dynamic profile.
Inside, the concept showcases a modern cabin equipped with a digital instrument cluster, an ergonomic heated steering wheel with integrated controls, and a central infotainment display. A manual transmission gear lever suggests a driver-focused experience.
Performance Expectations
While the exact engine specifications remain undisclosed, it’s anticipated that the Picanto GT-R would feature a turbocharged three- or four-cylinder engine. Given its positioning as a competitor to the GR Yaris – albeit in a smaller segment – an estimated output of around 200 horsepower is projected.
