Foo Fighters Announce ‘Take Cover Tour’ Return to New Zealand
Rock legends Foo Fighters are returning to New Zealand for their highly anticipated Take Cover Tour. Led by frontman Dave Grohl, the band will bring their high-energy stadium reveal back to the country in January 2027, marking their first visit since their 2024 tour.
The tour will kick off with a landmark performance in Christchurch before heading north to Auckland, utilizing some of the region’s most modern and refurbished sporting and entertainment venues.
A Historic Debut at One NZ Stadium
The Christchurch leg of the tour will be particularly significant as the band is set to be the first major international music act to perform at the new One NZ Stadium. The $683 million enclosed facility is designed with world-class acoustics intended to elevate the concert experience beyond previous open-air shows.
Venues Ōtautahi chief executive Caroline Harvie-Teare highlighted the band’s long-standing commitment to the city, noting their previous incredible performances in 2015 and 2024. During their last visit to the Garden City at Apollo Projects Stadium, Grohl explicitly promised fans that the band would return.
Auckland and the Support Act
Following the Christchurch show, the Foo Fighters will travel to Auckland to perform at the newly refurbished Western Springs Stadium. Adding to the excitement, the high school punk band SEEK HELP! has been announced as a support act for the tour.
Inside One NZ Stadium: More Than Just Music
The arrival of the Foo Fighters is a marquee event for One NZ Stadium, which serves as a multi-purpose hub for elite sports and entertainment. The venue’s schedule is packed with high-profile events:
- Super Rugby Pacific: The stadium opens in April, hosting five matches for the Super Round over Anzac weekend, including a clash between the Crusaders and the New South Wales Waratahs.
- Music Festivals: The first concert at the venue will be the “Once in a Lifetime” festival on May 16, featuring headline act Six60, Synthony, and Kaylee Bell.
- International Rugby: The All Blacks will play their first test match at the stadium on July 4 against France.
Reflecting on the Band’s New Zealand Legacy
The Foo Fighters’ relationship with New Zealand fans remains deep, characterized by emotionally charged performances. Their 2024 appearance at Mt Smart Stadium in Auckland was a three-hour odyssey that balanced greatest hits with poignant tributes. Dave Grohl performed ‘Aurora’ to honor late drummer Taylor Hawkins and shared a solo acoustic version of ‘Ballad of the Beaconsfield Miners,’ a tribute to Australian fans.
