Thousands of students turned out in style for the annual Student Race Day at Limerick Racecourse, transforming the venue into a vibrant celebration of fashion and festivity. The event, held on Thursday, drew large crowds eager to enjoy a day of racing, socialising, and showcasing their best race-day attire.
According to coverage by the Limerick Leader, the stands were packed as students arrived in elaborate outfits, with many opting for bold colours, statement accessories, and creative themes. The atmosphere was described as lively and energetic, with attendees making the most of the sunny spring weather.
Photographs from the event, shared by the Limerick Leader on their Facebook page and website, captured the excitement of the day, highlighting both the action on the track and the sartorial flair in the crowd. Popular spots like The Seven Sisters pub in Kildimo were mentioned as favoured gathering points before and after the races.
Racegoer Ericia O’Connor was featured in the coverage, sharing her approach to preserving her hairstyle for the event. She explained that she had her hair done the day before but chose to sleep upright in an armchair to avoid risking her glance overnight, rather than sleeping flat and potentially ruining her style.
The Limerick Leader’s dedicated horse racing section noted that the event included notable performances from local trainers, including Eric McNamara, who secured a win for the Preachers Syndicate-owned L’Evangeliste, and a Rathkeale trainer who celebrated a treble at the course.
While the event was a success, the Limerick Leader also reported that adverse weather had previously impacted race meetings at the venue, with a Tuesday meeting being cancelled due to an unfit track. However, conditions improved in time for the Student Race Day, allowing the festivities to proceed as planned.
Organisers and attendees alike praised the day as a highlight of the student social calendar, blending sport, style, and community spirit in a uniquely Limerick celebration.
