DePaul Track and Field Begins Split Weekend at Gibson and Bryan Clay Invitational
DePaul University’s track and field team officially entered the second half of its outdoor season on Friday, April 17, 2026, with a split-squad weekend featuring competition at the Gibson Invitational in Terre Haute, Indiana, and the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California.
The Blue Demons dispatched athletes to both venues as part of their continued outdoor push, marking the fifth consecutive year the distance group has returned to the Bryan Clay Invitational, one of the nation’s most competitive distance meets.
Meanwhile, the Gibson Invitational served as a meaningful homecoming for assistant coaches Geoff Wayton and Brandon Murer, who previously coached at Indiana State, the host institution of the Terre Haute event.
This split weekend followed a successful prior weekend where DePaul athletes secured eight event wins and multiple record performances, including Mohamed Abdullahi breaking a 10-year-old program record in the men’s 3,000m with a time of 8:23.47, Alex Bernstein setting a school record in the hammer throw at 70.62m, and the men’s 4x400m relay team winning in 3:08.60.
At the Bryan Clay Invitational, the distance squad aimed to continue its presence at one of the deepest and most competitive distance meets in the country, while the Gibson Invitational provided an opportunity to build on recent momentum in Terre Haute.
DePaul’s outdoor season remains in full swing, with the team aiming to maintain its competitive edge through upcoming meets as it prepares for the championship season.
