Gannet’s Hilarious Struggle with Grass Wins People’s Choice Award at 2025 Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards

A photograph capturing a gannet comically battling a gust of wind and a faceful of grass has been voted the winner of the Sterna People’s Choice Award at the 2025 Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards. The winning image, titled “Now where is my nest?” by Alison Tuck, was selected from a shortlist of 41 finalist photographs.

A Windy Day on the Yorkshire Coast

Alison Tuck, a photographer from the United Kingdom, captured the award-winning shot on the Bempton Cliffs in Yorkshire, England. According to Tuck, the day was exceptionally breezy, making it difficult to photograph from a boat. Still, the strong onshore wind ultimately worked in her favor, pushing the gannets closer to the cliffs as they gathered grass for their nests. This allowed her to capture close-up images of the birds’ amusing struggle.

“There was an onshore wind which meant we couldn’t shoot from the boat, however the wind played to our favor as the gannets were being pushed towards and up the cliffs giving us ample opportunity to get some lovely close-up images of them collecting grass for their nests,” Tuck explained in a press release.

Public Vote Decides the Winner

The Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards announced the People’s Choice Award winner on April 28, 2026, following a public vote that took place earlier in the year. Tuck expressed her excitement and gratitude for winning the award, stating, “I am really chuffed and grateful to all the people who voted for me not forgetting to mention how much fun I had – it is The Nikon Wildlife Comedy Awards after all.”
