Magic’s Wagner Out for Game 5 Against Pistons with Calf Strain
The Orlando Magic will be without forward Franz Wagner for Wednesday night’s Game 5 matchup against the Detroit Pistons due to a right calf strain, potentially shifting the series dynamic.
Wagner sustained the injury during Game 4 and an MRI on Tuesday confirmed the strain. While the severity wasn’t initially specified, reports indicate he is expected to miss the game.
Wagner’s Impact on the Magic
The absence of Wagner, a former Michigan standout, is a significant blow to the Magic. He has been a key contributor in the postseason, averaging 16.8 points and 3.5 assists. He also averages 2.8 steals per game and has been a primary defender against Pistons guard Cade Cunningham, spending over 17 minutes defending him throughout the series.
Against Wagner, Cunningham is shooting just 31.8% from the field and has committed six turnovers, while shooting 23.1% from three-point range. Wagner’s physicality has consistently challenged Cunningham.

With Wagner sidelined, the Magic will need to adjust their lineup.
