Buckhannon-Upshur Tennis: Davis Wins at Big 10 Championships

Bridgeport Dominates Big 10 Tennis Championships, Buckhannon-Upshur’s Davis Secures Lone Victory

Bridgeport High School secured the team title at the Big 10 Conference boys tennis championships, winning two singles positions and a doubles bracket. The competition, held across two locations – Robert C. Byrd High School and Lincoln High School – was delayed by inclement weather. Despite Bridgeport’s overall success, Buckhannon-Upshur High School’s Liam Davis achieved a notable win for the Buccaneers.

Bridgeport’s Championship Performance

Jacob Keener led Bridgeport’s charge, winning the No. 2 singles title after defeating opponents from Philip Barbour, Lewis County, and Grafton. Philip Nguyen secured another singles victory for Bridgeport in the No. 4 bracket, overcoming Liam Davis of Buckhannon-Upshur in the quarterfinals and ultimately winning the final against Lewis County’s Devon Cralton.

The duo of Philip Nguyen and Henry Smith clinched the No. 2 doubles title, defeating Buckhannon-Upshur’s Davis and Dwayne Riley in the opening round. Adam Jackson and Jacob Keener finished as runners-up in the No. 1 doubles bracket, falling to Lincoln’s Ty Merrill and Davin Zimmerman in the final.

Davis Earns Buckhannon-Upshur’s Sole Win

Liam Davis secured Buckhannon-Upshur’s only win of the tournament, competing in the No. 4 singles bracket. He defeated Elkins’ Gage Koch 8-1 in the semifinals, but ultimately fell to Philip Nguyen in the finals.

Additional Competition Details

Adam Jackson advanced to the semifinals in No. 1 singles, while Henry Smith was a finalist in No. 3 singles, losing to Lincoln’s Alex Ramsey.
