A Mother’s Struggle Under Siege

Renee Wilson was loading a car seat into her vehicle in Tacoma when two dogs broke free. The encounter left the pregnant woman with severe injuries, forcing medical intervention.

The attack occurred at 11:05 a.m. in the 4000 block of Puget Sound Avenue. Wilson was attempting to shield her chihuahua when the dogs, identified as an American pit bull terrier and an American bully, turned their aggression toward her.

“They ran up, and they tried to attack my chihuahua, so I jumped in front of her to stop them from attacking her,” Wilson stated. She reported that one dog pulled her by her hair as neighbors rushed to her aid.

Emergency Delivery at Tacoma General

Bystanders heard Wilson shouting for help and alerting them to her pregnancy as the struggle unfolded. Initially transported to a nearby hospital in stable condition, she was later transferred to Tacoma General Hospital. Doctors treated her for wounds and a subsequent infection, ultimately deciding to induce labor.

Wilson’s son, Armani, was delivered unharmed. Wilson remains hospitalized until she can walk again and is free of infection.

Dangerous Animal Classification

Tacoma Animal Control has officially classified both dogs as “dangerous” animals. The animals are currently impounded, and the owners have a 10-day window to appeal the designation before a judge. Should the classification hold, the dogs could be euthanized.

Investigators confirmed the dogs escaped through a broken fence board that the owners knew about. Authorities have since charged the owners with misdemeanors for failing to license the animals and allowing them to run at large, totaling $2,000 in fines.

The Path to Civil Litigation

While the owners cooperated with police, the legal fallout is far from over. Wilson has indicated her intent to file a civil lawsuit against the owners regarding the incident. For now, the focus remains on her physical recovery and the safety of her newborn son.
