Canada Announces Women’s Baseball World Cup Roster for 2024 Campaign

Baseball Canada has selected 20 players for its women’s national team, set to compete in the 2024 WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup qualifiers in Rockford, Illinois, from July 22 to 26, according to an official announcement. The squad aims to secure one of three spots for the 2027 World Cup, also hosted in Rockford.

Experienced Core and New Talent

Seventeen players return from Canada’s three-game sweep of Puerto Rico in May, securing their World Cup qualification. Fifteen members have prior World Cup experience, including 13 who contributed to the team’s 2024 bronze medal in Thunder Bay. Notable veterans like Claire Eccles, who has earned silver (2016) and bronze (2018) medals, will lead the team. Newcomers Kyanna Faucher and Camille Proulx were selected after a development camp in Cary, North Carolina, in October 2023.

Coach’s Vision for Qualification

Head coach Anthony Pluta, who guided Canada to bronze in the 2024 World Cup, emphasized the team’s growth. “This group demonstrates the strength and progression of our program,” Pluta said. “We have a talented squad with international experience, and we’re confident in our ability to qualify for the 2027 final.” The team will train in Winnipeg from July 13–15 before traveling to Rockford for preparation through July 21.

Schedule and Preparation

Canada will face the U.S. in two exhibition games on July 18 and 19 in Rosemont, Illinois. The World Cup group stage includes matches against Hong Kong, South Korea, Mexico, the U.S., and Australia. All group games will be held at Rivets Stadium in Rockford. The team’s coaching staff includes Pluta, along with pitching coach Brittney Langlais, first-base coach Kristy Watson, and third-base coach Logan Wedgwood.
