Indonesian Authorities Deport Palestinian National to Cyprus
Indonesian immigration authorities deported a Palestinian national, identified as Abdul Karim, to Cyprus.
Officials confirmed that the individual is neither a cleric nor a Gaza-based activist, directly contradicting claims that gained traction on social media during his detention.
Government Rejects Political Narratives
Yusril Ihza Mahendra addressed the matter during a press briefing to clarify the government’s position.
“We have checked his background, and he is not a Palestinian cleric, nor is he an activist involved in Gaza-related issues,” Yusril stated. The ministry maintained that the decision to send Karim to Cyprus—his last point of departure—was based strictly on established immigration protocols regarding stay permit violations.
Ulema Council Demands Legal Transparency
The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) had previously intervened, requesting an official explanation for the detention.
Immigration officials responded by confirming that the detention stemmed from a specific legal case involving his residency.
