To bridge this psychological gap, Pataranutaporn’s research team uses AI tools to generate aged images of participants by 30 years and animate them. By feeding detailed user questionnaires into models like Claude Sonnet 4.5, these digital avatars produce hypothetical yet realistic future memories designed to help young people bond with their future selves.

In a recent study involving nearly 200 participants facing difficult life choices, researchers divided individuals into groups that interacted with varying numbers of career avatars. While participants exposed to three distinct future avatars showed a significantly higher willingness to adopt AI-generated career suggestions, experts warn about potential pitfalls. Chang is currently developing an AI chatbot intended to guide users through hours-long reflective exercises.
