According to Marvel Studios announcements at Hall H on July 26, 2026, Ryan Gosling will take on the role of the skeleton motorcycle hero for a feature film slated for a 2028 release. The casting fulfills a long-standing fan campaign and echoes past remarks from Gosling expressing interest in the role, as reported by Rolling Stone. During the panel, accompanied by the punk classic “Ghost Rider” by Suicide, Gosling addressed the audience, stating, according to live event coverage, “As you know, this is a character I’ve wanted to play for a long time.” Director Shawn Levy confirmed his involvement for the 2028 release date, noting his upcoming work with Gosling on Starfighter.
Previous Portrayals of Ghost Rider in Film and Television
The character of Johnny Blaze and the Ghost Rider mantle have a cinematic and television history prior to this casting. According to historical entertainment data, Nicolas Cage previously portrayed Johnny Blaze in two early-2000s feature films released before the launch of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Additionally, actor Gabriel Luna played an alternate version of the character, Robbie Reyes, on the television series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., according to Marvel television records.
David Jonsson Joins Black Panther 3 as T’Challa II
