The regulatory shift stems directly from French government Decree No. 2022-1199, which formally took effect to reshape digital transportation assistance. The text requires navigation services facilitating multimodal travel to prominently feature routes with the smallest carbon footprint. Furthermore, the regulation dictates that if a route includes a road segment with a speed limit of 110 km/h or higher, the applications must offer an alternative path featuring a 20 km/h speed reduction, as noted by Le Journal du Geek.

User Impact and Customization Options

While the update provides drivers with transparent tracking of their carbon footprint to support eco-friendly travel, the default routes often extend travel times. Online user forums reflect mixed reactions to the added delays. However, navigation platforms do not lock users into these eco-friendly paths. Drivers can manually adjust their app settings to revert to the fastest routes if they prefer speed over emission reductions.
