A magnitude 5.4 earthquake struck the Seram region in Indonesia on Saturday, according to seismological monitoring from the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ).

Early Morning Tremor Rattles Maluku

According to data published by the GFZ, the 5.4-magnitude earthquake registered early Saturday. Independent tracking by Volcano Discovery also recorded a strong magnitude 5.1 tremor in the Ceram Sea region of Maluku, locating the epicenter roughly 78 kilometers south of Pulau Yetpelle Island. The seismic event was logged at 8:15 a.m. local Jayapura time.
