The FC Bayern Munich squad has arrived in South Korea and Hong Kong for the Audi Summer Tour, balancing rigorous pre-season preparations with international marketing. The tour marks a phase in the German record champion’s preparation, combining intensive training camps with high-profile fixtures across key Asian markets.
Following a training camp at the Tegernsee, the Munich club launched into an intensive schedule spanning two countries. According to Sport Director Max Eberl, the journey serves a dual purpose of physical preparation and squad cohesion. “The Asia tour is simply a wonderful moment to grow back together as a group,” Eberl stated regarding the club’s objectives abroad.
Match Schedule and Fixtures in Asia
The tour features two high-profile test matches designed to test the squad ahead of the domestic campaign. The opening fixture pits Bayern against Jeju SK FC on August 4 at the Jeju World Cup Stadium. Three days later, on August 7, the squad faces UEFA Europa League winners Aston Villa in Hong Kong.
These encounters form the backbone of the international trip before the team catches an immediate return flight to Munich on August 8. FC Heidenheim, culminating in the Franz-Beckenbauer-Supercup against Borussia Dortmund on August 22.
Squad Limitations and Youth Integration
Kompany faces notable personnel absences due to extended post-season breaks and recovery timelines. Key figures including Harry Kane, Michael Olise, and Dayot Upamecano remain on vacation following international commitments. Meanwhile, Jamal Musiala, Serge Gnabry, Lennart Karl, and Ismael Saibari work in Munich to return.
These absences have opened doors for several academy players to feature prominently during the international fixtures. New signing Nathaniel Brown has also traveled with the squad, identifying the trip as a key opportunity to integrate with his new teammates ahead of the competitive season.
Balancing Athletic Priorities and Commercial Obligations
Alongside training sessions, the squad faces a demanding itinerary of public appearances, media engagements, and fan events. However, club leadership has emphasized that sporting performance remains paramount. Eberl confirmed that while commercial duties exist, the core focus stays locked on training hours and match readiness.
“We have obligations. The main focus is on the training times and the games,” Eberl stated. “Of course, we also have to do a few PR appointments, a few media appointments. But we, who are responsible for the sport, clearly have the focus on the sporting side.”
