Tadahiro Miura’s supernatural romantic comedy manga Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs (known in Japan as Yuragi-sō no Yūna-san) officially launched in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in February 2016, according to publishing records. The series quickly established a dedicated following within the magazine’s lineup, blending supernatural folklore with romantic comedy tropes centered around a haunted boarding house.

Manga Serialization and Plot Premise

The story follows Fuyozora Kogarashi, a homeless high school student with spiritual powers who can see and possess ghosts. According to story summaries from Shueisha, Kogarashi takes up residence at the Yuragi-sou, a cheap hot springs inn that happens to be haunted by the spirit of a high school girl named Yūna. Rather than being terrified, Kogarashi teams up with Yūna and other supernatural residents to resolve various paranormal phenomena.

Adaptation History and Media Expansion

Following its print success in Weekly Shonen Jump, the franchise expanded into other media formats. An anime television adaptation produced by Xebec premiered in July 2018, bringing Miura’s character designs and supernatural settings to television screens. The franchise also spawned original video animations (OVAs) and video game adaptations, cementing its place in the late 2010s anime and manga landscape before the original manga concluded its serialization in June 2020.
