The Centro de Bellas Artes Ada Mage Zayas in Juana Díaz has officially reopened its doors, returning a cultural venue to Puerto Rico’s southern region following an extensive municipal rehabilitation effort.
Three Million Dollars in Post-Hurricane Repairs
The municipal government poured approximately $3 million into repairs at the Juana Díaz facility. The building had sat shuttered since July 2023.
Juana Díaz Mayor Ramón Hernández Torres explained that the rehabilitation project tackled heavy structural damage left behind by Hurricane María. Contractors overhauled facility infrastructure, modernizing lighting systems, installing motorized curtains, and applying fresh interior paint to bring the venue back to standard.
“With this logro we reaffirm our commitment to culture and art in Juana Díaz,” Hernández Torres said in written statements provided by the municipal administration.
An Economic Engine for the Urban Center
Beyond the stage, municipal officials expect the venue to function as an economic driver. By drawing visitors and commercial traffic directly to the town’s urban center, the facility is slated to inject new life into local commerce. The center bears the name of Ada Mage Zayas, a remembered local educator, actress, declaimer, and cultural leader. For the community, the space operates as a central gathering point for local artists, students, and residents alike.
