The product combines a digital USDPT wallet with a Visa card inside a mobile application. USDPT is issued on the Solana blockchain by Anchorage Digital Bank and is fully backed by reserves to maintain a 1:1 exchange rate with the United States dollar.

Global Rollout and Market Targeting

Western Union plans to expand the Stablecard service to more than 60 markets by the end of the year, launching initially in 37 markets aimed specifically at regions experiencing severe local currency volatility, according to the official release. Users can receive Western Union money transfers directly into their USDPT wallet, hold the funds as a stablecoin, and spend them anywhere Visa is accepted. The card integrates directly with Apple Pay and Google Pay digital wallets for everyday purchases. The Stablecard application is currently available for download on both the Apple App Store and Google Play.

Infrastructure and Executive Leadership Perspective

Rain acts as a principal member of Visa and Mastercard, providing the foundational enterprise infrastructure for both the wallet and card components of the new offering, according to company statements. Devin McGranahan, president and chief executive officer of Western Union, stated that the product marks a critical next step in making global financial services more accessible to everyday consumers. “Combining the stability of dollar-based digital assets with the scale of Western Union’s global network and Visa’s payment rails, we are giving customers a new way to hold value, move funds, and spend across borders with confidence,” McGranahan said in the press release.

Asset Management and Interoperability

Customers using the service retain the flexibility to transfer USDPT to and from compatible digital asset wallets and cryptocurrency exchanges. They can then utilize the linked Visa card to spend their digital balance seamlessly at merchant locations globally. The underlying infrastructure ensures that users maintain complete control over their digital funds while bridging traditional retail payment acceptance networks with blockchain-based asset rails.
