Ceuta government officials have alerted state authorities to calls circulating across Moroccan social media and messaging platforms, urging a mass border crossing attempt into the Spanish autonomous city on August 15.
The digital mobilization follows recent migration pressures and has prompted heightened security awareness across the border region.

The circulating digital appeals use messaging platforms like WhatsApp and social networks such as Facebook.
Dozens of groups comprising approximately 400,000 total users have shared hundreds of videos. These posts encourage young individuals to replicate previous crossings.
Local authorities highlighted specific phrasing translated as, “Brothers, what is going to happen that day? Are you prepared? August 15, Fnideq-Ceuta. That day everything will be seen.”
Ceuta Administration and National Alerting
The government of Ceuta confirmed that the online activity is not unexpected.
Alejandro Ramírez, spokesperson for the autonomous city’s government, acknowledged the administration’s concern during a press briefing, stating that rumors and mobilization efforts across social networks require active monitoring.
Ramírez noted that the executive branch, led by Juan Jesús Vivas, has formally notified competent national authorities so that state security forces remain prepared for any potential coordinated attempts to breach the border.
Historical Context and Infrastructure Pressures
The current alert follows earlier migration events that tested local reception infrastructure. In previous years, including incidents in Ceuta in 2021 and similar pressures in the Canary Islands in 2024, the PP defended the repartition of unaccompanied minor migrants among Spanish regions.
