Tucumán Launches “Protected Trajectories Network” for Vulnerable Pregnancies

The Tucumán Ministry of Public Health is launching a new initiative called the Red de Trayectorias Protegidas, scheduled for official rollout between mid-to-late August, to coordinate existing health system resources and provide comprehensive support for pregnant individuals facing vulnerability. Minister of Public Health Dr. Luis Medina Ruiz led a planning session alongside undersecretaries Marcelo Montoya and Cristina Majul to finalize the program details.

The upcoming network is designed to unify current public health programs and devices, ensuring continuous care for pregnant patients dealing with mental health conditions, substance use disorders, gender-based violence, social hardships, or other factors that complicate standard pregnancy monitoring. Legal advisor Dr. María Marta Silván and psychology specialist Hebe Manzano also participated in the ministerial meeting to establish the operational framework.

Early Detection and Community Healthcare Roles

According to Dr. María Marta Silván, the program prioritizes early intervention by identifying high-risk pregnancies through the primary healthcare level. Community health workers will execute a central function in tracking and supporting patients close to their homes. Silván noted that the initiative builds on existing systems to bridge gaps in continuity of care.

Psychology specialist Hebe Manzano emphasized that the strategy tackles the emotional and social barriers that often prevent patients from maintaining regular prenatal appointments. By addressing psychological and social vulnerabilities directly, the network aims to secure timely access to necessary medical and social services throughout the gestation period.

Implementation Timeline and Operational Guidelines

Provincial health authorities have concluded the conceptual design phase of the Red de Trayectorias Protegidas. Provincial health teams are currently integrating different levels of care and healthcare effectors while drafting an operational guide for clinical implementation ahead of the August launch.

The Ministry of Public Health aims to reduce barriers to prenatal care across Tucumán by deploying this coordinated approach, securing safer pregnancies and structured follow-up for patients who require specialized, multi-disciplinary intervention.
