The annual Roman festival at Jublains returns on Saturday, August 8, and Sunday, August 9, offering free public access to archaeological reconstructions and historical combat demonstrations from 10 a.m. to 18 p.m. each day, according to the archaeological museum organizing the event.
Gladiator Combat at the Ancient Theater
The program opens at the ancient theater with authentic gladiatorial combat demonstrations directed by the Confrérie de la Corneille. Visitors can watch the live spectacles and actively participate in sessions designed to demonstrate ancient training methods and combat techniques, as detailed in the official museum schedule.
Roman Construction Techniques at the Fortress
Following the morning arena events, activities shift to the ancient fortress to highlight engineering and architectural milestones. Artisans from the Fabri Tagnuarii host hands-on workshops that break down the specific secrets behind Roman construction techniques, providing visitors with a close-up look at ancient building trades.
On Sunday afternoon, the historic theater hosts a special performance by chantre Thierry Vanesson. He will recite and perform several traditional narratives of ancient battles within the walls of the fortress, bringing historical texts to life through oral storytelling.
Children’s Craft Workshops at the Museum
The archaeological museum runs continuous craft workshops for children throughout the weekend. Young participants learn how to construct everyday objects from the Roman period, including traditional metal brooches used for garments and authentic replicas of ancient Roman currency.
