Unitree Robotics secured overwhelming demand as retail investors subscribed 5,526 times to its initial public offering on the Shanghai stock exchange, according to an exchange filing released on Aug 10. The Hangzhou-based humanoid robot maker, officially known as Yushu Technology, priced its offering at 150.8 yuan per share to raise approximately 6.1 billion yuan, positioning the firm to reach a market valuation of US$9 billion.

Shanghai STAR Market Debut and Strategic Backing

The company sold 40.4 million shares in the retail offering, which drew 9.8 million individual orders according to the filing reported by Bloomberg. Unitree is slated to debut on Shanghai’s STAR Market in August, marking mainland China’s first publicly traded humanoid robot maker. Strategic investors claimed about 20 percent of the available shares. Tencent Holdings-affiliated investment vehicle DeepSeek secured a 2.31 percent stake with a three-year lock-up period, alongside state-backed investment arms including China National Petroleum, China Southern Power Grid, and China Telecom.

Beijing Priorities and Industry Momentum

Humanoid robots represent a strategic priority for Beijing as China accelerates funding to support its domestic technology sector against the United States in artificial intelligence. Unitree gained widespread international attention following appearances by its dancing robots at the annual Spring Festival Gala. The partnership with DeepSeek allows Unitree to integrate advanced artificial intelligence models to build embodied-intelligence capabilities for its robotic systems.
