The Mechanicsburg boys golf team placed 11th with a team score of 378 at the Columbus Academy Invitational, hosted by the Urbana Country Club on Monday. The 18-hole tournament featured 12 teams and 74 golfers, with play interrupted by multiple lightning-related rain delays before the full field completed the event, according to local tournament reporting.
Mechanicsburg finished ahead of the 12th-place Urbana Hillclimbers, who posted a team score of 483 on their home course. MJ Blose led the Mechanicsburg squad with an 87, securing 34th place overall among the 74 participants.
Mechanicsburg Individual Golf Scores
Following Blose’s team-leading round, senior Maxwell Popovich shot a 95 to finish 55th overall for Mechanicsburg. Junior Ryder Buxton carded a 96 to take 58th place, while sophomore Elliott Moore rounded out the team scoring with a 100, finishing 61st.
Additional competitors for the Indians included sophomore Owen Lawhorn, who shot a 102 to finish 65th, and Douglas Violet, who carded a 122 to place 68th overall.
Urbana Hillclimbers Tournament Results
Urbana finished at the bottom of the 12-team standings with a 483 team total. Freshman Brant Markin led the Hillclimbers by shooting a 104, finishing 66th overall in the tournament. Sophomore Lane Varney followed with a 115 to place 67th.
The remainder of the Urbana lineup featured sophomore Kelton McClain and sophomore Lyle Rice, who each carded a 132 to tie for 69th place. Freshman Jacob Stanforth completed the team scoring with a 137, placing 71st overall.
Weather Delays Impact Early-Season Field
The Columbus Academy Shootout provided both local high school programs with early-season tournament experience against an expanded 12-team field. Despite the weather interruptions caused by lightning delays at the Urbana Country Club, tournament organizers ensured all 74 golfers completed the 18-hole slate.
