Joint Training and Cross-Cultural Exchanges at Shougang Park
Parallel to the competition, Shougang Park’s Aurora International Sports Training Center hosted a youth exchange program on Aug. 10, 2026, featuring gymnasts from the Oregon Rhythmic Gymnastics & Dance Academy. According to China Daily, the visiting American delegation participated in a joint training session focused on posture, body waves, and apparatus manipulation, guided by coaches from both nations.
During the exhibition routines, Chinese athletes performed intricate spins and balance routines influenced by Eastern rhythms, while American participants presented expressive choreography. “The joint training was really fun. I wish we got a little more time with the (Chinese) gymnasts,” Marlowe Stuart, a participant from the Oregon academy, told China Daily. Chloe Weng, another member of the US delegation, noted to the outlet that it was inspiring to see athletes from different backgrounds share a mutual enjoyment of the sport.
Cultural Immersion and Olympic Heritage Tours
Away from the training floor, the US delegation engaged in traditional cultural activities and explored Beijing’s post-Olympic regeneration projects. Shijingshan youngsters demonstrated Shaolin Eight-Method Boxing, allowing the visiting gymnasts to practice classic kung fu movements under the instruction of a veteran martial arts teacher, as reported by China Daily.
The itinerary also included a tour of Big Air Shougang, the world’s first ski jumping platform to be permanently preserved and used from the 2022 Winter Olympic Games. The delegation explored the surrounding Yongding River Market, observing how the former steel mill site transitioned into a modern cultural and entertainment district. Team leader Robyn McManama told China Daily that it was rewarding to see an industrial area find renewed purpose.
Official Involvement and Event Organization
The youth exchange was organized by the Beijing branch of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (BPAFFC), following an invitation extended to the US delegation. High-level representatives attended the Shougang Park gathering, including BPAFFC Vice President Jiao Yutong, Shijingshan District Deputy Mayor Zhong Mianmian, and Oregon-China Council President Ying Shuqi, according to China Daily.
