Italian manufacturing firm Farid Industrie has secured a multi-million-euro contract through 2031 to supply specialized waste-handling machinery for New York City’s sweeping street-cleanliness overhaul, according to company statements reported by Italian outlets including Il Giornale d’Italia. The project relies on 100% Made in Italy to manage large street-level waste containers across all five boroughs, backed by significant confirmed orders for delivery between 2026 and 2027.
New York Waste Management Overhaul and Technology Adaptation
The municipal initiative stems from urban density challenges in New York City, where narrow streets and a widespread lack of residential courtyards complicate traditional trash collection. According to Farid Industrie CEO Marco Orecchia, previous mayoral administrations studied the issue to combat urban decay, rodent infestations, and difficult working conditions for sanitation crews before deciding to install large-scale stationary containers on public streets.
To meet these requirements, Farid Industrie adapted its proprietary bell-handling machinery in just six months. The city launched a pilot program in 2024, acquiring an initial batch of containers from a Spanish supplier alongside 16 specialized handling machines from Farid in partnership with a German waste-truck manufacturer. Following a testing phase in a Manhattan district, the city issued a formal tender in August 2024, which the Italian firm won later that autumn.
Production Expansion at Vinovo and New U.S. Operations
To fulfill the multi-million-euro municipal agreement, Farid Industrie is ramping up operations at its manufacturing facility in Vinovo, Italy. The company is dedicating a specific assembly line to the New York project with substantial capital expenditure planned exclusively for 2026, aiming to double output capacity for this product line.
Concurrently, Farid is establishing a dedicated United States entity alongside a local dealer to handle on-site machine integration. According to Orecchia, leadership has already been appointed, a production site will be selected by August, and local processing by company personnel is scheduled to begin before the end of the year with an initial workforce of approximately 20 employees.
Financial Impact and Revenue Projections
Farid Industrie reported solid revenues for the previous fiscal year and projects that the New York deployment will generate steady annual revenue increases.
Of the total framework extending to 2031, significant orders are locked in with delivery schedules set for 2026 and 2027.
