Tennis legend Roger Federer briefly entered the billionaire club before a sharp market decline dropped his net worth to approximately $953.4 million, according to financial data from Forbes. The valuation shift followed a nearly 19% drop in share prices for On Holding, the Swiss athletic apparel brand where Federer holds a minority stake, after the company missed second-quarter sales expectations on Tuesday.

On Holding Shares Fall After Second-Quarter Sales Miss

According to financial reports published by the Wall Street Journal and analyzed by Forbes, On Holding posted net sales of 850.4 million francs for the second quarter. That figure represents a 13% increase from the previous year, but it falls short of the 878.4 million francs anticipated by market analysts. The shortfall triggered a sharp sell-off on Tuesday morning, driving the stock price down by about 19% by 10:40 a.m. and reducing Federer’s net worth below the ten-figure threshold.

Despite the revenue miss, the Swiss sportswear maker reported a robust net profit of 105 million francs, equivalent to $129.4 million. That performance marks a sharp recovery from a net loss of 40.9 million francs during the same period in the previous year. On Holding also reported that its gross profit margin climbed to 65.4%, up from 61.5% a year earlier, prompting the company to raise its full-year margin outlook to 65%.

Federer Stake in On Holding and Career Earnings

Federer owns an estimated 2.5% stake in On Holding, consisting of Class A and Class B shares acquired after he joined the company as a co-owner in 2019. Company founders describe the 20-time Grand Slam champion as a “socio cercano” (close partner). That equity stake propelled his overall net worth past the billionaire threshold in 2025, according to Forbes estimates.

Before entering the business world full-time, Federer accumulated roughly $131 million in tournament prize money over a 24-year professional career. He officially retired from competitive tennis in 2022 at the Laver Cup in London. While his on-court earnings established his initial wealth, long-term endorsement deals with global brands like Uniqlo, Mercedes, Rolex, and Moët & Chandon—managed alongside agent Tony Godsick through Team 8 Sports & Entertainment—secured his long-term financial standing.

Financial Comparison with Other Sports Billionaires

Prior to Tuesday’s market correction, Federer joined an elite group of athletes who crossed the four-digit net worth mark. According to data reported by El País, that exclusive tier includes basketball icons Michael Jordan at 3.200 billion, Magic Johnson at 1.277, Junior Bridgeman at 1.192, and LeBron James at 1.000, alongside golfer Tiger Woods at 1.107 and Ion Tiriac at 1.959.
