Giuliacci’s Forecast Disputes Prolonged November Heat
Addressing public concern regarding prolonged high temperatures, Mario Giuliacci rejected forecasts suggesting that the current heat wave gripping Italy would stretch uninterrupted toward the winter months. According to Giuliacci, statements claiming an ongoing summer climate in November rely on hyperbole. To illustrate his point during an appearance on the television program Zona bianca, the meteorologist offered a satirical comparison, joking that such logic would imply eating prosciutto and melon at Christmas, as reported by Virgilio Notizie.
Giuliacci clarified that if November records temperatures of 24 degrees Celsius—exceeding the 20 degrees Celsius it should have—it is very above average but is not heat. Heat waves can occur until the final decade of September, which are often confused with heat.
Dust Devil Phenomenon Linked to Severe Drought
Recent viral footage capturing a “dust devil” or “diavolo di sabbia” sweeping across Puglia has heightened public concern regarding environmental conditions. According to Giuliacci, who compared the Italian sighting to similar phenomena he witnessed in the Nevada desert near Las Vegas, the swirling column of debris is the equivalent of a waterspout but composed of sand generated where the sun is very scorching.
Prolonged drought conditions have left soils dry and powdery, allowing what could have been a normal wind to transform into a dust tornado, as detailed by Bigodino.

The Italian Ministry of Health issued red heat advisories covering 19 cities for Tuesday, August 11, 2026. The affected urban centers include Bari, Bologna, Bolzano, Campobasso, Catania, Civitavecchia, Firenze, Frosinone, Genova, Latina, Messina, Napoli, Palermo, Perugia, Pescara, Reggio Calabria, Rieti, Roma, and Viterbo. For Wednesday, August 12, the red alert status remains active across all 19 original locations with the addition of Brescia.
Looking at the remainder of the month, Giuliacci’s extended outlook indicates that the week spanning August 10 to August 17 will be scorching, with particularly oppressive humidity expected around Ferragosto and Sunday, August 16. A noticeable shift is anticipated during the week of August 17 to August 23, when cooler Atlantic air arrives, projecting thunderstorms especially in the North and a sharp drop in temperatures almost everywhere. By the final week of August, from August 23 to August 30, incoming Atlantic currents should stabilize maximum temperatures closer to 30 degrees Celsius rather than 35 degrees.
