A blood donation drive is scheduled for Monday, October 27, at the Salle de la Boule d’Or in Pontchâteau, according to announcements from the Établissement français du sang (EFS) reported by Ouest-France.

Expanded Capacity for October Rose

For this upcoming drive, organizers are scaling up operations to welcome more donors. Patrice Gourhand, president of the association, announced that 130 time slots will be opened—an increase from the usual 90 slots—backed by reinforced logistical support, as detailed by Ouest-France.

The October session coincides with Breast Cancer Awareness Month (Octobre rose). Highlighting the urgency of the cause, local volunteer associations note that one in eight women develops breast cancer during her lifetime, according to figures from the Ligue contre le cancer cited by Ouest-France.

Donation Requirements and Guidelines

To participate in the Pontchâteau blood drive, individuals must meet specific health and eligibility criteria established by health authorities:

  • Age: Donors must be between 18 and 70 years old.
  • Weight: A minimum weight of 50 kg is required.
  • Identification: A valid photo ID must be presented upon arrival.
  • Health Status: Donors must be in good overall health.

The EFS advises participants to eat a proper meal and stay well hydrated before, during, and after the donation process. Because blood products have a limited shelf life, consistent community mobilization remains vital for maintaining medical inventories across health facilities throughout the year.

How to Participate

Appointments for the Monday, October 27 session can be booked online through the official platform at dondesang.efs.sante.fr. Participants are reminded to bring their photo identification to the Salle de la Boule d’Or between 16:00 and 19:30.
